Marino, Wendzel, Reilly, Meerman, Schroeder, Wakeman, Cambensy, Robinson. Nays: Reps. Camilleri, Hope, Manoogian. Pass: None. The Chair laid HB 4816 before the committee: HB 4816 (Rep. Iden) A bill relating to the promotion of regional convention business and tourism in this state and certain regions of this state; to provide for tourism and convention marketing and promotion programs in certain areas; to provide for imposition and collection of assessments on the owners of transient facilities to support tourism and convention marketing and promotion programs; to provide for the disbursement of the assessments; to establish the oversight functions and duties of certain state departments, state agencies, and state employees; and to prescribe penalties and remedies. Representative Brandt Iden, the bill sponsor, explained his bill. Questions followed. Representative Manoogian offered the following amendment to HB 4816: 1. Amend page 2, line 18, after "areas," by inserting "recreational facilities, sporting venues,". Representative Manoogian explained and withdrew her amendment. The following individuals submitted a testimony card in support of the bill, but did not wish to speak: Scott Keith, President and Chief Executive Officer for the Lansing Entertainment and Public Facilitates Authority, and Ron Kitchens, Chief Executive Officer for South west Michigan First.
