The Chair laid HR 23 before the committee: HR 23 (Rep. Beson) A resolution to urge the Governor and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to lift the suspension on high school sports and allow play to resume immediately. Representative Beson, testified in support of HR 23. Questions and discussion followed. Representative Brixie offered the following amendment to HR 23: 1. Amend page 2, line 29, after "outbreaks;" by striking out the balance of the page through "it" on line 1 of page 3 and inserting "and Whereas, Sports are part of a well-rounded educational experience, but getting students back in the classroom is the most important aspect for their long-term development. To achieve this, the Legislature should immediately appropriate the federal relief dollars our school districts need to implement their reopening plans and fund the testing and other costs that will be incurred to reopen sports in a manner that effectively mitigates the spread of COVID-19; now, therefore, be it".
