Representative Breen moved to adopt the meeting minutes from January 18, 2024. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4944 and HB 4963 before the committee: HB 4944 (Rep. Zorn) A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled "The insurance code of 1956," (MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 3406z. HB 4963 (Rep. Steckloff) A bill to amend 1956 PA 218, entitled "The insurance code of 1956," (MCL 500.100 to 500.8302) by adding section 3406aa. Representative Zorn, Josh Stump, Legislative Director for Representative Zorn, Sidney Kraizman, Chair of the Advocacy Committee and summer camp program of the Michigan Alexander Graham Bell Association for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing, Tressa Sanders, a corporate director of Human Resources at a large healthcare company and mother of children with hearing loss, and KT Maviglia-Morgan, lead member of the Legislative Committee for the Michigan Coalition for Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and Deafblind People, all testified together in support of HBs 4944 and 4963. Questions and discussion followed. The following people submitted a card in support of HB 4944 and HB 4963, but did not wish to speak: Dr. Casey Stach, representing the Michigan Audiology Commission.
