Representative Glanville moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 13, 2024. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. Chair Rogers laid before the committee a presentation on diabetes: the types and causes, its prevalence in Michigan, the results of failing to manage it, and the costs to society and our health care system when affordable treatments are unavailable. At 12:21 PM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 12:22 PM, the Chair called the committee back to order. Dr. Arti Bhan, representing the Michigan State Medical Society, gave an overview of diabetes and the medical interventions it requires. Cayley Winters-Norrie, representing herself and diabetes patients, gave a personal account of what can happen when insulin is unaffordable. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 4890 and HB 5519 before the committee: HB 4890 (Rep. VanderWall) A bill to amend 1984 PA 270, entitled "Michigan strategic fund act," by amending section 9 (MCL 125.2009), as amended by 2021 PA 136, and by adding chapter 8F. HB 5519 (Rep.
