Evidence text: Representative VanderWall moved to adopt the meeting minutes from April 17, 2025. There being no objection, the motion prevailed with unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 4244 before the committee: Representative Maddock testified in support of HB 4244. Questions and discussions followed. Representative Fitzgerald offered the following amendments to HB 4244: 1. Amend page 1, line 3, after "Sec. 3." by striking out "If" and inserting "Except as otherwise provided in section 5, if". 2. Amend page 1, following line 4, by inserting: "Sec. 5. When communicating with non-Michiganders, especially outside of the United States, a public body may use the term "Gulf of Mexico", "Gulf of America formerly named the Gulf of Mexico", or "Gulf of America née Mexico" if usage of "Gulf of America" will or is likely to cause any of the following: (a) Confusion. (b) Reputational harm to this state, its residents, or its elected officials." and renumbering the remaining section.
