The director shall strongly encourage firms with which the department contracts to subcontract with certified businesses in deprived and depressed communities for services, supplies, or both.”. 2. Amend page 29, following line 8, by inserting: “Sec. 313a. The department shall work with organizations that promote minorities and women to recruit more minority and female corrections officers to help increase the diversity of the state’s corrections officers’ workforce. The department shall submit quarterly reports on the department’s efforts to recruit minority and female officers, and on the diversity of the corrections officer training academies. The reports shall be submitted to the senate and house appropriations subcommittees on corrections, the senate and house fiscal agencies, the legislative corrections ombudsman, and the state budget office.”.
