- HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES COMMITTEE ON EDUCATION AND WORKFORCE REP. NANCY DEBOER CHAIR COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES The House Committee on Education and Workforce was called to order by Chair DeBoer. The Chair requested attendance to be called: Present: Reps. DeBoer, Linting, Paquette, Fox, Kunse, St. Germaine, Pavlov, Wilson, Koleszar, Weiss and Byrnes. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Linting moved to adopt the meeting minutes from February 04, 2026. There being no objection, the motion prevailed with unanimous consent. The Chair laid a presentation on student programs by SME before the committee. Rob Luce, Vice President of the SME Education Foundation, Dr. Shelley Wooley, the Director of Education Programs at SME, & Dr. Debra Volzer the Vice President of Workforce Development at SME gave a presentation on the student programs by SME. Questions and discussion followed. The Chair laid HB 5364 before the committee: The following people submitted a card in opposition to HB 5364, but did not wish to speak: Brenda Pilgrim, representing the Michigan Association of School Boards. Annie Monaweck, representing the Calhoun ISD. Dr. David Michelson, representing the Michigan Education Association. The following person submitted a card in support of HB 5364, but did not wish to speak: Katherine Bussard , representing herself. Wednesday, February 18, 2026 10:30 AM Room 327, House Office Building HB 5364 (Rep. Johnsen) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," by amending section 1278 (MCL 380.1278), as amended by 2016 PA 170. Representative Linting moved to report out HB 5364 with recommendation. The motion prevailed 7-4-0: FAVORABLE ROLL CALL Yeas: Reps. DeBoer, Linting, Paquette, Fox, Kunse, St. Germaine and Pavlov. Nays: Reps. Wilson, Koleszar, Weiss and Byrnes. Pass: None. There being no further business before the committee, Chair DeBoer adjourned the meeting at 11:07 AM.
