The Chair requested attendance be called: Present: Reps. Tyrone Carter, Liberati, Neeley, Scott, Young, Grant, McFall, Snyder, Wilson, Mueller, Filler, Wendzel, Aragona, Bierlein, Neyer. Absent: None. Excused: None. Representative Liberati moved to adopt the meeting minutes from March 5, 2024. There being no objection, the motion prevailed by unanimous consent. The Chair laid HB 5527 and HB 5528 before the committee: HB 5527 (Rep. Fitzgerald) A bill to amend 1941 PA 207, entitled "Fire prevention code," by amending section 19 (MCL 29.19), as amended by 2014 PA 481, and by adding section 19b. HB 5528 (Rep. Tyrone Carter) A bill to amend 1976 PA 451, entitled "The revised school code," (MCL 380.1 to 380.1852) by adding section 1319. Representative Fitzgerald testified in support of HB 5527, (H-2), HB 5528 and (H-1). The following people submitted a card in support of HB 5527 and HB 5528, but did not wish to speak: Dr. Sheryl Kennedy, representing the Michigan Department of Education -- with MDHHS edits. The Chair laid HB 5421 before the committee: HB 5421 (Rep. Rogers) A bill to amend 1976 IL 1, entitled "A petition to initiate legislation to provide for the use of returnable containers for soft drinks, soda water, carbonated natural or mineral water, other nonalcoholic carbonated drink, and for beer, ale, or other malt drink of whatever alcoholic content, and for certain other beverage containers; to provide for the use of unredeemed bottle deposits; to prescribe the powers and duties of certain state agencies and officials; and to prescribe penalties and provide remedies," by amending section 2 (MCL 445.572), as amended by 1998 PA 473. Representative Rogers testified in support of HB 5421. At 10:53 AM, the Chair laid the committee at ease. At 10:54 PM, Majority Vice Chair Liberati called the committee back to order.
